Photosensitizing agents are drugs that can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Drug-induced phototoxic reactions generally present as unexpected sunburns or dermatitis on sun-exposed areas of the skin. Certain photosensitizing agents are used in the setting of photodynamic therapy and photochemotherapy (i.e. their ability to induce photosensitivity is used for therapeutic benefit).
